Making Hunting in Africa a Reality
April 1, 2009
The days are numbered. Just little over a month and the first hunters will begin their quest to hunt genuine wild game on the continent of Africa. Sofala Safaris is proud to announce that we have 19 people (from the USA) who are going on safari this year. Each and every person I have talked to over the last month expressed great excitement and anticipation of this promising hunting season with Sofala.
Hunting wild game in Africa? Though that might sound strange or redundant to some, the reality is that there are too many hunts on TV where hunting in some places in North America and Africa appear to be nothing less than shooting domesticated animals. This can often negatively influence the perception of what hunting is suppose to be. With Sofala every hunter knows that he or she will be truly tested and the art of real hunting in Africa will be the thing most remembered. I have had numerous conversations with hunters about the right shot placement, the right ammunition, the right rifle, and the importance of being able to shoot from shooting sticks and from different positions. Bow hunters will have to really control their breathing; there are few things that get the heart pumping as fast as the moment when the hunter draws the bowstring with a fantastic plains game trophy within striking distance.
Sofala Safaris is also going to make a complete DVD of the 2009 hunting season which will be our 5th year of operation. Hunters will pursue Kudu, Gemsbok, Waterbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Belsbok, Impala, Njala, Bushbuck, Steenbok, Warthog, Duiker and more. Several wing shooters are also on their way and will shoot for Guinea Fowl, Francolin, the Common Quail, Pigeons, Doves and some Ducks including Egyptian Geese. None of the meat is ever wasted with Sofala Safaris and hunters and families will enjoy meat that they personally harvested. We provide the local people and several meat markets with the meat from hunts and of course save the best for friends and ourselves!
With all the gunpowder that will be burned, there are also tours to places like the Cape of Good Hope and its world famous wine country, Kruger National Park, Zululand in Natal and the Victoria Waterfalls in Zimbabwe. Each tour will be a private tour, led by our own staff and family members, people who have lived all of their lives in South Africa. As a family operated Safari, it is one of Sofala’s greatest assets in that people get to know the different cultures and the way of life as they enjoy safety and companionship with true South Africans. Not to mention the food and the breathtaking views of Southern Africa. Truly an adventure of a lifetime.
P.S. 2010 is the year South Africa hosts the biggest single sporting event in the world: the FIFA Soccer World Cup. If you know people who would be interested in combining a hunt and/or tour with attending this great event, please let us know.
